Nombuso Bhorholo

Born in Mpumalanga in 1995. Lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Nombuso Bhorholo is a young visual artist; creative writer; public art performer and activist.

In 2012 Bhorholo studied film at the CJC art campus Crown mines Johannesburg. In 2013 she enrolled with the Market photo workshop to enhance her cinematography skills in practical. Bhorholo got a scholarship to study multimedia in 2016 in Cape Town at the academy of design also known as Friends of design. In 2017 she worked with the Sisonke organisation as an artist activist for sex workers.

With the black and white photographs of her series Spaces, Bhorholo embarks on a journey into Joburg’s infamous grey areas and urban jungle. The underbelly of the city is inhabited by shadows and broken souls living on the fault lines of this unforgiving universe. It is a lucid and passionate tale of resilience shining through the gaze of a young woman storyteller.
